What factors affect the measurement accuracy of gas turbine flowmeter

2025 01/10

The measurement accuracy of gas turbine flow meters is affected by various factors.
1. The structure and characteristics of the flowmeter itself
① Flow meter selection: Gas turbine flow meters with appropriate range ratio, accuracy level, nominal diameter, and working pressure should be selected based on the usage conditions and characteristics of the measuring medium. Improper selection may lead to a decrease in measurement accuracy.
② Turbine and bearing wear: Long term use of gas turbine flow meters may result in decreased accuracy due to bearing and impeller wear. In addition, if there is dirt or blockage inside the flowmeter, it will also affect its normal operation and measurement accuracy.
③ Sensor signals and signal processing: Turbine flow meters are usually equipped with magneto electric sensors or other forms of signal converters, whose performance directly affects measurement accuracy. Meanwhile, the stability and accuracy of electronic components, signal amplification, and processing circuits are also crucial for the final measurement results.

2. Characteristics of the tested medium
① Medium cleanliness: When the measured medium contains small solid impurities or oil stains, these impurities may adhere to the flow meter bearings, causing the bearings to malfunction and the impeller to rotate abnormally, resulting in mechanical wear and affecting measurement accuracy. In addition, impurities may also block the rotor, reducing the effective flow cross-section through the rotor and causing distortion of measurement data.
② Corrosivity of the medium: If the measured medium contains corrosive gases, when the gas flows through the flowmeter, it will corrode the rotor part of the flowmeter, causing corrosion deformation and surface peeling of the rotor, thereby causing changes in the mass of the rotor, changing the measurement parameters of the flowmeter, and affecting the accuracy of the measurement.
③ Temperature and pressure changes: The temperature and pressure changes of gases can affect the base volume and density, thereby affecting the measurement accuracy of flow meters. When there is a significant change in temperature and pressure, if no corresponding compensation or correction is made, it will result in measurement deviation.
④ Fluid pulsation: The pulsating flow or unstable flow velocity in the fluid can affect the measurement accuracy of the turbine flowmeter. Pulsating flow can cause fluctuations in turbine speed, thereby affecting measurement results. The higher the pulsation frequency, the greater the result error.
⑤ Fluid viscosity and density: Fluid viscosity varies with temperature and may affect turbine rotational resistance and response speed. Due to changes in pressure and temperature, fluid density requires compensation calculations to obtain accurate mass flow rates,

3. Operating environment and installation method
① Installation method: The installation method of the flowmeter also affects its measurement accuracy. For example, flow meters have certain requirements for the upstream and downstream straight pipe sections of the installation point, otherwise it will affect the measurement accuracy. The intelligent gas turbine flowmeter must be installed horizontally on a straight pipeline, and the pipeline inclination must be controlled within a certain range. During installation, the flowmeter axis should be concentric with the pipeline axis and the flow direction should be consistent.
② External vibration: External vibration may also affect the normal operation of the turbine, thereby affecting measurement accuracy.
③ Length of straight pipe section: Insufficient length of straight pipe section before and after the turbine flowmeter may cause flow field distortion and affect measurement accuracy.
④ The condition of the inner wall of the pipeline, such as roughness, scaling, pollution, etc., may affect the fluid flow state and the operation of the turbine, thereby affecting the measurement accuracy.
4. Maintenance and Calibration
① Regular calibration: Flow meters require regular calibration and maintenance to ensure their accuracy. If calibration is not timely or maintenance is improper, it will lead to the accumulation and amplification of measurement errors.
② Maintenance management: It is necessary to strengthen the management and maintenance of flow meters, timely supplement lubricating oil to flow meters, reduce wear and tear of flow meters, and improve measurement accuracy.
In summary, to improve the measurement accuracy of gas turbine flow meters, it is necessary to comprehensively consider and optimize multiple aspects such as the selection, installation, maintenance, characteristics of the measured medium, usage environment, and installation method of the flow meter itself.
